Question #1
I believe the examples Clever lists in the opening of her essay violate our civil liberties because in some way all the examples either cross the line of privacy or protection. I believe legislation should be passed to make the types of behavior Clever describes illegal. There is no way in the world child pornography, fraud, copyright violation, antitrust or child-stalking could ever be seen as legal; these are unlawful actions, some more than others. Just because these things are done over the internet doesn’t make them any different if it were to happen without the use of it. I think the internet just gives people an easier advantage to perform these types of actions. I think that people shouldn’t be allowed to put certain content on the internet, even though some may say they are expressing their first amendment rights. And people should be more careful of what they share and do on the internet. The internet should be a safe place for anyone to use. A lot of times when searching for sites because of the name of the site or the name being closely related to something else, inappropriate sites come up. Along with that there are some copy sites; the site may look really legit or just like the site you visited the day before which was legit but this one is not.
I think it was clever of Clever to use these examples in the beginning of her essay because it really gets the reader thinking about the points she makes and really emphases the danger of the internet. Clever’s essay really shows how dangerous the internet can be. Although the internet was surely created for good, some have found ways of corrupting it.

I agree with everything that your saying. I feel the internet should be safer to some extent because of all the harmful information thats out there. Any kid can google dirty image.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything that you are saying. I feel the internet is getting wrost. The internet should be safe place for everyone.Any kids can google anything or find how to make something on youtube.
ReplyDeleteJavonda, I completely agree with everything you mentioned in this blog entry. The internet definitely makes committing these crimes much easier on people, and it needs to be stopped. I hate when I’m trying to go to a website, and I either get automatically directed to some other gross website or a bad pop-up comes up without my control. I don’t know how parents will ever be able to trust their children to be able to go online when they are old enough to use computers! It is a shame that people have corrupted the internet in these ways, and I hope there will soon be a way to prevent, or at least reduce the popularity of committing these crimes.
ReplyDeleteThis is all true. What kind of parent would allow a child to access such things? Oh wait, there really is no way to stop it; no easy way at least. The internet is too broad and very easily accessed. They could come across informatin, images, or worse that they really shouldn't be exposed to at such a young age.
